ABOUT

Assaf is partner and a member of the firm’s tax group.

Assaf’s practice focuses on international tax matters and he advises the firm’s clients on cross-border investments, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, inbound and outbound business operations, and other international transactions.

Prior to joining the firm, Assaf spent seven years working as a tax lawyer in the New York office of Sullivan & Cromwell LLP, where he advised clients on a variety of U.S. federal and state tax matters. Assaf has significant experience representing taxpayers in connection with civil tax controversies and other interactions with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), state tax authorities and the U.S. Tax Court, including representation before the IRS Independent Office of Appeals and assisting clients with obtaining rulings from the IRS.

Assaf received an LL.M. in International Taxation and an S.J.D. from the University of Michigan, where he was a recipient of the Michigan Law School Grotius Fellowship. Assaf’s doctoral dissertation (available here) focused on international tax aspects of online advertising.

Assaf received an LL.M in Commercial Law, an LL.B. and a B.A. in Accounting (all Magna cum Laude) from Tel Aviv University.

Assaf began his legal career as a legal intern and a tax associate at Gornitzky & Co.
